Bailar III John C.
John C. Bailar III, MD, Ph.D. (statistics), is Scholar in Residence at the National Academies in Washington, DC and Professor Emeritus at the University of Chicago, where he was the founding Chair of the Department of Health Studies. For many years his professional interests centered on the causes and prevention of disease. More recently, he has had a substantial interest in improving the quality of science generally. He was at the US National Cancer Institute from 1956-1980, Harvard University from 1980-1988 and McGill University from 1988-1995 (Chair, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics 1993-1995) before he went to Chicago. He has published widely in the epidemiology literature, including, recently, the health effects of air pollution.
