Jacobo Finkelman is a Mexican National, serving as an independent consultant on Environment and Public Health. He holds a MD Degree (Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico) and a MPH (School of Public Health of Mexico). Over his almost 40 years of professional service, he held senior positions with the World Health Organization/Pan-American Health Organization as the WHO/PAHO as Country Representative in Mexico (2005 – 2006), Brazil (1998 – 2004), Guatemala (1993 – 1998). Director of the Pan-American Center for Human Ecology and Health (ECO/PAHO/WHO). Metepec. Mexico (1981 – 1993). Head, Program Area. Epidemiological Surveillance, Laboratory Services and Medicines Control. PAHO/WHO. Washington, D.C., E.U.A. (1980-1981) and Head, Epidemiological Surveillance Unit. PAHO/WHO. Washington, DC., USA (1977 – 1980). He also was the Head, Public Health Research Department. Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) between 1973 – 1977. His scientific interest is in governance of environmental health and global public health. He has published over a hundred papers, book chapters and books. He has served as a member of editorial and advisory boards of several national and international scientific journals and organizations. He has received approximately 50 national and international awards for his academic and service achievements.
